On Wednesday, October 18, 20203, More than 35 premier institutions of India, from both public and private domains, received awards at the sixth industry academia conclave for their contribution to the Indian academics, organized by the Federation for World Academics, held at The Ashok Hotel, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Theme of the sixth industry academia conclave was ‘Opportunities and Challenges in Technical Education: Implications on India, Post G20-2023 Summit Success.’
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad and IIM Lucknow, jointly received the Management Education Mentor 2023 award and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar received the award for Leading Technical Institute for Research, Innovation & Internationalization. IIM Raipur received the award for Management Education Leader for Industry Income Integration 2023 and Outstanding Private University for Medical Science & Research awards was conferred upon Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad (Karnataka). Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Prof. T.G. Sitharam was the chief guest of the conclave. Director of IIM Ahmedabad, Prof. Bharat Bhasker, director of IIT Ropar, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, and Pof. Shailendra Singh of IIM Lucknow, joined the AICTE chairman in the inaugural panel discussion. Along with them, Deependra Kumar Jha, Chief Academic Officer of Larsen and Toubro also joined the first session.
The chairman shared the anecdote when he asked ChatGPT to write a poem on AICTE in Hindi. Leaving him in a total surprise by the AI’s advancement, the famous language processing AI-driven chatbot wrote a poem in 10 seconds.
AICTE Chairman said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative of Jan Bhagidari to encourage participation by the citizens of our country in the year of India’s G20 Presidency, has democratised its importance and our strategic values in the whole world.
The chairman cleared that the AICTE wants to become a ‘facilitator, along with being the regulator’ of technical education in India and much more transforming guidelines will be released in the future by the council, aiming to make our technical graduates a world class. “Inclusivity and employability are two very important aspects to fully harness all the opportunities.” AICTE chairman said.
Prof. Sitharam thanked the Federation for World Academics for organizing an academic conclave on the theme that centred on India’s G20 presidency and how its achievements are indubitably going to bridge the gap between the industry and academia.
Prof. Bharat Bhasker shared some real incidents when human being used the technology to do the grunt work and improved the efficiency. Enlightening on the importance of ‘duration of research’, director of IIT Ropar, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja said that research takes time and industry sector must understand it that within three or six months, a fruitful research could be a tough job. Prof. Ahuja also stressed industries must visit colleges at least twice each semester and students at the biggest exposure of those meetings.
“There is no point in delivering a lecture, if it is not engaging,” said Deependra Jha. He further supported the initiative of Professor of Practice which encourages industry professionals to teach at the academic institutions, but he stressed that it should be vice versa as academicians should also serve for some time at the industries, to inculcate the sectors’ need to the students.
Besides, dignitaries from two central universities also graced the conclave with their presence and insights. Prof. M. Krishnan, Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Tamil Nadu stressed the collaboration between industry and academia and said that this collaboration is indispensable if the Indian academics really wants to proliferate leaps and bounce. Prof. Lalnundanga, Registrar of Mizoram University enlightened more than 200 attendees of the conclave on how the north-east India is growing exponentially for education, and he urged all the industries to visit Mizoram University’s campus as its students really have a zeal to grow in the world.
At the conclave, colleges and institutions were awarded in different categories for their contribution to the academics. Prof. Irfan A. Rizvi, Vice President of FWA, New Delhi, moderated the conclave. Shiv Shankar Sharma, Secretary General of FWA, thanked all the attendees for gracing the conclave.
